    Anchorage is a cosmopolitan city of 250,000 people located a short distance from some of nature’s greatest treasures.  Anchorage offers an array of attractions and services to accommodate all who come to Alaska.  It is the cultural and commercial center of Alaska.  Employment opportunities are found in transportation, tourism, government services, construction, petroleum production and many other areas.  Bartlett High School serves the Fort Richardson Army Base, Elmendorf Air Force Base, and the surrounding community.

     

    School

    Bartlett High School is one of eight comprehensive high schools in Anchorage and has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students in grades 9 through 12.  Bartlett is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges .  The school maintains high quality academic and activity programs.

     

    Faculty

    Members of the faculty at Bartlett High School come from universities throughout the United States. Approximately 50% of the faculty hold Masters degrees, and many have completed study beyond the Masters level. Bartlett High School has approximately 100 certificated staff members.

     

    Ethnic Distribution

    Bartlett High School serves a racially and ethnically diverse student population. The breakdown is as follows: 20% of the students are Caucasian, 12% are African-American, 30% are Asian or Pacific Islander, 15% are Multi-Ethnic, 11% are Alaskan Native or American Indian, and 12% are Hispanic.

     

    Curriculum

    The comprehensive curriculum includes college preparatory, business, technical, honors, and A.P. (Advanced Placement) courses. Students also have the option of attending the King Tech for half-day vocational training in 25 occupational areas. Programs are also provided for remediation, Special Education, and Intensive Needs.

     

    Advanced Placement and Honors Programs

    Advanced Placement courses are offered in English, United States History, Economics, American Government, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Spanish, French, and German.  Honors Courses in English and Social Studies are available in 9th and 10th grades. World language classes are offered at Levels I through V in French, Spanish, German and Chinese.

     

    Activities

    Bartlett High School offers a large number of extracurricular activities, including a wide selection of sports; Student Government, National Honor Society, Key Club, Debate, Drama, Yearbook, Choir, Band, Cheerleading, Army JROTC, world language clubs, cultural clubs; and many other activities.

     

    Grading System

    Most grades are based on a 4-point system, the exception being Advanced Placement classes which are based on a 5 point system.  The following is used for classes based on a 4-point system:  4.0 = A; 3.0 = B; 2.0 = C; 1.0 = D; 0 = F.  Grade point average is based on all subjects and is computed by dividing the total points by the total number of units attempted.  A student’s class rank is determined by the cumulative grade point average for grades 9 – 12.
