    Frontier's Charter and Bylaws

    What is a Charter School?

Charter schools in Alaska are public schools that offer alternative teaching methods or curriculum, and are approved by the school district and State of Alaska. Charter schools are governed by an elected board called an Academic Policy Committee.

What is an Academic Policy Committee (APC)?

The APC is the governing body of the charter school and is responsible for ensuring the fair and uniform application of all federal, state and local laws in the operation of the School as well as the School's charter and policies.

Frontier Charter School is governed by an APC, which consists of parents, teachers, and members of our community who have a vested interest in homeschooling at Frontier.

During the past year, this exceptionally effective group of volunteers reinvigorated our educational program by writing a new charter contract with the school district. On March 16, 2023, the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development approved this charter renewal for a 10-year term.

Frontier Charter School is proud of, and grateful for, the efforts of our current and former APC representatives. They have created a healthy school environment since our inception in 2003. In 2014, an accreditation review team noted, "Frontier Charter School's Academic Policy Committee is a model of governance for APC's statewide."
