Curriculum

  • Below are the major components of K-6 curriculum at Campbell STEM Elementary.  You may find additional curriculum information on the Ê®·ÖÁùºÏ²Ê Curriculum and Instruction page.

     

    Language Arts

    • Program Overview: Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a language arts program for grades PreK–5 that combines a multi-sensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge—so that students learn to read and read to learn at the same time. 
    • Knowledge and skills for K-2: Every day in grades PreK–2, students complete one full lesson that builds foundational reading skills, as well as one full lesson that builds background knowledge. The reading skills include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Knowledge units combine reading skills with in depth science and social studies content.
    • Based on the Science of Reading: The CKLA curriculum is based on the science of reading, a collection of research that supports the most effective methods of teaching literacy. To learn more about the science of reading, check out .

    Math:

    i-ready classroom mathematics is a robust mathematics program that will help your student become a strong, independent mathematical thinker. the program uses an enhanced and strategic approach to math instruction, focusing on reason, problem solving, and student-to-student conversations about conceptual mastery.  students have the opportunity to tackle complex concepts, and hone their critical thinking skills about mathematics.

    Science:

     is a Core Science Curriculum aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.  It includes both scientific inquiry and engineering design.

     

    Social Studies:

    The Social Studies curriculum is comprised of history, geography, culture, civics and government. 

     

    Handwriting:

     is a program used in grades K-5.

     

    Library:

    All students receive library instruction for 30 minutes each week.

     

    P.E.:

    All students receive 1 1/2 hours of p.e. instruction per week, usually three 30 minute classes. 

     

    Health:

    Our Health teacher is on a 2 week rotation schedule. Students receive a one hour health class on the weeks our health teacher is here. 

     

    Music:

    All students kindergarten through 5th grade receive one hour of music instruction per week. Sixth grade students have the option of joining band or orchestra which meets three times per week. 

     

    Art:

    Our art teacher is on a 2 week rotation schedule. Students attend art class for one hour per week when our art teacher is here.
