Students at Campbell STEM engage in a variety of formative and alternative assessments. Staff work to create assessments that support many learning styles, including hands-on and project-based learning opportunities. Students are also engaged in the process of designing and completing rubrics and other assessment tools. These assessments help engage students in their own learning to become lifelong learners.

Data notebooks are used by students as a tool to track their learning. An example consists of third-graders hypothesizing and experimenting to determine the materials light will travel through. Another example is fourth-grade implementing the Engineer Design Process to solve a problem.

Students present their STEM learning to a range of stakeholders within and outside the school. During our Science fair and parent information meetings, students share their learning with families and the community. Students explain their learning orally and explain the process that they implemented.

Additionally, students track their progress throughout the year. Students conduct student-led parent/teacher conferences where they discuss their learning throughout the year and their goals. This is a powerful tool for students to self-assess and celebrate growth with their families.
