Creating a High-Performing District

  • The Anchorage School Board is a municipal-wide elected body with governance responsibility for the Ê®·ÖÁùºÏ²Ê. As a governance board, it is our responsibility to:

    1. Set a clear direction for the District;
    2. Empower and hold accountable the Superintendent for implementing our direction and managing District operations;
    3. Develop and adopt policies that support and implement the Board’s strategic plan; 
    4. Approve, adopt, and monitor an annual budget; and
    5. Model the professionalism and degree of effort they expect from students, families and staff.

  • School Board meets twice per month for Regular Sessions and holds one Work Session per month, unless otherwise noted.

    First meeting of the month

    • Work Session - (1 hour) begins at 4:00 p.m.
    • Executive Session / Break – (1 hour) – begins at 5:00 p.m. (if needed)
    • Regular Session – begins at 6:00 p.m.

    Second meeting of the month

    • Work Session - (1 hour) begins at 4:00 p.m.
    • Executive Session / Break – (1 hour) - begins at 5:00 p.m. (if needed)
    • Regular Session – begins at 6:00 p.m.

    Public testimony:

    • Limited to three minutes per person.
    • One hour timeslot at beginning of meeting.
      Testimony in excess of one hour will be heard at the second opportunity for testimony at end of the meeting or can be submitted in writing.
